This is a chicken coop built to last. This is not your home improvement store shed or it's equivalent. This is built to last with top grade materials and features.
This is before the reinforced slab was poured.
Here is the reinforced slab (@4 inches thick). I made it approximately 1 ft wider and longer than the actual coop.
Different from a barn raising, I constructed much of this myself and also had a helper for several days.
Here the framing inspectors arrived to do their job. They were unexepectedly jovial and were overheard to say, "let's build our own chicken coop - Dad!!"
This rooster was very excited about the new coop. A couple of the hens escaped and checked out the coop, and he indignantly watched. I could tell he wanted to lead the new coop review!!
Old coop - which the rooster is happy about leaving.
The chicken coop yard is the right size for feeding the chickens and have small barnyard dances.
This is a light gate, hung on 3/4 lag bolts. The weight of the gate is nearer the post so it shouldn't sag.
Here you can see the windows and gate.
This is the inside, looking toward the storage room where there will be a heat lamp for young chicks.
This is where the roost area will be built along with the egg laying cubicles.
